NYCRUNS Governor's Island 5K & 10K

August 20, 2016

Start time: 8:30 AM

Governors Island

Address: New York Harbor New York, NY

This summer Governor’s Island reopens a large swath of the island when The Hills open up. Join NYCRUNS for a 5K and 10K and experience all the island has to offer!

Course: The course will not be finalized until late June, but the 5K course will be a single loop and the 10K will likely be a double loop.

Amenities: Bag check and toilets will be provided. A free t-shirt will be given to all participants. Clif Bar products, bagels, spreads, and fresh fruit will make up the usual great NYCRUNS post race spread.

Awards: Awards and prize money will be given to the top three male and female runners overall as follows: $100 for 1st Place, $50 for 2nd Place, and $25 for 3rd Place. Age group awards in the 5K will be awarded to the top three in each the following age groups: 9 and under, 10-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70 and over. Age group awards in the 10K will be awarded to the top three in each the following age groups: 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70 and over.

Packet Pickup: Due to security restrictions on Governor’s Island, packet pickup must be done in advance of race day. A friend or acquaintance may pick up your packet for you–they’ll need only provide your name to packet pickup staff. Packet pickup will take place as follows: Friday, August 19th, from 12-8 PM, at JackRabbit – Union Square (42 W. 14th Street, between 5th Ave. and 6th Ave.).

There will be no race day packet pickup whatsoever.

Spectators:  Want to have someone cheer you on at the finish?  Up to 4 people can join you but they will need to register as spectators at $10 per person, receive a number and accompany you for access to the 7:30 AM runners ferry.  Spectator numbers can only be picked up at packet pickup. Spectators also are welcome to partake of post-race food and drink but must wear bib. Directions:  There’s only one way to get to the island – the Governor’s Island ferry, and your ferry ride is included in your race registration. You must arrive at the Battery Maritime Building at 10 South St. no later than 7:15 AM to check in and you must have your race bib.  The 4,5, R, and 1 trains are closest to the ferry terminal.  Please note, the ferry is only for registered runners and guest with visible race bibs.  Information regarding public access to Governor’s Island is available here.

Please check MTA Trip Planner for up to date and detailed mass transit directions and Google Maps for driving directions.

Cost: $35 through 7/24, $40 through 8/14,  $50 thereafter. Online registration will close on 8/19 at 9AM. NYCRUNS members receive a 10% discount, race deferral rights, and other perks. Race day registration will NOT be available for this race.

The standard no-refunds, no-deferrals, no-transfers policy applies, unless you are signed up for the NYCRUNS membership program.

Time Limit & Pace:  Unless explicitly stated otherwise, you must be able to maintain a pace of 15 minutes per mile or faster for all NYCRUNS races except 5Ks where you must be able to maintain a pace of 20 minutes per mile.  As long as you meet those requirements, you can rest assured your efforts will be supported with hydration stations, course amenities, and proper medical coverage just in case. If you cannot maintain the minimum pace at an NYCRUNS event, your finish time may not be recorded and you may be asked to remove yourself from competition by either vacating the course or surrendering your race bib. Please understand that these requirements are for your safety.

Headphones & Earbuds: We recognize that many of you run best with music or audiobooks but to ensure your safety and the safety of others, please do so in a manner that allows you to be aware of your surroundings. We’d prefer that you leave one ear unobstructed by only wearing one earbud at all times. If at any time NYCRUNS Staff or Volunteers see that you do not heed the directions of a course marshal or your awareness is otherwise hindered by your headphones or earbuds, you may be disqualified.
