Uphill run /walk to the Summit of Hunter Mountain

Saturday August 13th, 2016
 
Experience spectacular views unique to the Catskill Mountains while racing, running or most likly walking up to the summit of Hunter Mountain! This is a tough, uphill only challenge. Do you have what it takes to summit?
 
This race is the morning of Hunter Mountain's German Alps Festival - all participants gain free entry, plus a lift on the Skyride back down the mountain.
 
Proceeds and donations will be to benefit JDRF, "Improving Lives. Curing Type 1 Diabetes."  JDRF Logo
 
Individuals, families, and teams are all encouraged to participate and raise money for our cause!

Spitz Blitz Race Description
Hunter Mountain’s Spitz Blitz is a 3.2 km race up the Belt Parkway ski trail ascending a total of 1,600 ft. in elevation. The trail wraps around the mountain towards the west and back with the finish line at the summit of Hunter Mountain. Enjoy spectacular views and cheer on the remaining runners/walkers as you cool down.

Spitz Blitz – Charitable Legacy
All proceeds will be donated to the JDRF organization to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people’s lives until we achieve a world without T1D.

Registration
Click on the Register Now link to sign up today.We will offer registration the day of the race at a slightly increased registration fee. Please plan to arrive early to ensure you get entered well before the 9am start time.

What you get
All registered participants will receive a Spitz Blitz t-shirt, free admission to the German Alps Festival, a free Skyride return to the base of the mountain. Enjoy a fresh aid station and beautiful views at the summit.

Check In
Check-In for the Spitz Blitz starts at 9:00 AM and closes at 9:45 AM (15 minutes prior to the race start.)

Pre-Race Briefing
There will be a short pre-race briefing about 10 minutes prior to the start of the race.

Weather and Clothing
Early August in the Northern Catskill Mountains can be hot and humid.   Train and plan for a hot day, stay hydrated.  Be prepared, watch the forecast and plan accordingly.  This is a hot weather race we strongly encourage you to carry a water bottle at all times.

Race Numbers
You must wear your race number and it must be clearly visible at all times.  

Course Markings
The course will be marked, it is important that you study the course maps prior to running and have a concept of where you are going.

Aid Stations
Our aid stations are manned by volunteers please be sure to thank them!  Food and Drink – Aid stations will have the following beverage and food choices available:  Water, Sports Drinks, Oranges, and Bananas, Bagel bites with PB and J, Salted Potato Chips, Cookies, and of course Gummy Bears.

Headphones
Please be aware of your surroundings and the ability to communicate others on your run/walk to ensure everyone’s safety.

Littering
Don’t do it.  If you see some trash someone else has dropped, pick it up.  Keep the trail clean.

Cut-off Times
We have established a 1.5 hour time limit for this race, this should be doable for just about anyone!

1st Place Open Run Male and Female
1st place Run Masters (age 50 – over)
1st place Open Walk Male and Female
1st place Walk Masters (age 50 – over)
Awards will be presented at the German Alps Festival, time to be announced at a later date.

Post-Race Return
Participants will take the Skyride down to the base.

Results
Preliminary race results will be posted on our website within a few days of the end of the race.

Lost and Found
Any personal items left after the race will be donated to a charity. We will not ship items to you.

Please note that entry fees are not refundable under any circumstance; race registrations are not transferable to other participants.  Please consider these factors carefully before registering – thank you.
