Description

Aloha, Friends! J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center is hosting our First Annual Aloha Color Run sponsored by Assure the Future. Get ready for 3 miles of fun filled running, walking, dancing and COLOR!

The Aloha Color Run is devoted to three things: FUN, COLOR, and COMMUNITY! This will be an unforgettable experience for the local community, JIRDC staff and residents. You will enter campus as a blank canvas and cross the finish line as a human rainbow!

When: Saturday, September 17th, 2016 – 10:00 AM

Where: J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center Campus

The Nitty Gritty:

We have designed a 5K course throughout the gorgeous JIRDC campus with FOUR color stations along the way. As you venture through each color station, volunteers, staff and residents with douse you with non-toxic colored corn starch. Want more color? Keep running! The farther you make it through the course, the more colorful you’ll get!

Once you cross the finish line, get ready for an epic dance party complete with snacks, music, awards and even more color throws!

We only have 2 rules:

  1. Wear a white shirt.

  2. Have FUN!

Each paying participant will receive a custom designed race shirt, surprise goodies and more from our awesome sponsors.

It doesn’t matter if this is your first event or if you are a seasoned runner. This event is NOT timed. So no worries if you don’t PR this race. Whether you run, walk, stroll, dance or push a friend in a wheelchair, the Aloha Color Run is for everyone and will surely be an event to remember!

This course is designed for runners, walkers, strollers, or wheelchairs.  Individuals of all abilities are welcome and encouraged to participate!

Children 5 yeras old and under may participate at no cost, but will not receive a t-shirt.  If your child would like a t-shirt, they must pay the registration fee regardless of age.

Dress to Impress:

Ok, ok. So a white shirt is a little boring. Dress it up with your best Hawaiian and luau gear! A panel of judges will be checking you out pre-race and handing out awards for the best costumes. So grab your hula skirts and shades and get creative!

And The Award Goes To…:

Custom designed pendants will be presented for the following categories:

  • Best Dressed Male

  • Best Dressed Female

  • Largest Group of Volunteers

  • Largest Individual Fundraiser

  • Largest Group Fundraiser

Charity Shout Out:

While we love bathing you in color and hula dancing our way across the finish line, we love our community even more. So where is your registration fee going, you ask? JIRDC has a GOREGOUS chapel. And we’d like to make it even better! All proceeds from the Aloha Color Run will go towards developing an outdoor labyrinth to be utilized by both residents and staff.

What’s a labyrinth? So glad you asked!

Labyrinths are walking paths that create a sacred space to meet our human need to connect with God. They can be walked alone or in pairs and only require one’s presence on the path. They are especially suited for individuals whose spiritual lives are supported by practices that are non-verbal and based on movement and the present moment experience. They are powerful in grief work, prayer, calming and healing. The labyrinth we create will be accessible by foot and wheelchair so that all residents at JIRDC can take part in its beauty and serenity.

Thank You

A huge thank you to the faculty and staff at JIRDC and Assure the Future for making this even possible. Thank you as well to our local law enforcement and medical staff, our charity partner, the many dedicated volunteers and all of our sponsors. And last, but certainly not least, THANK YOU for your participation and contribution to such an awesome cause!

Aloha!
