Description

New Date!!! We have changed the date of our 5K from August to September to coincide with National Estuaries Day. Join us for a 5K like no other in RI while supporting and celebrating the conservation and education of our beautiful estuary, Narragansett Bay. The 3rd Annual 5K to Protect the Bay takes place on preserved land that is part of the Narragansett Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, based on Prudence Island. Enjoy a unique course on a mix of paved and dirt/gravel roads with breathtaking views of Narragansett Bay. Your run will take you alongside forests and meadows that will start and finish right at the shoreline. Make a day of it by taking the ferry over to Prudence Island to run a fantastic race!

Please note that due to Island logistics, registration is limited. Register early to secure your spot! Registration will close on September 21, 2016.

Event details and schedule

Schedule of Events: Participants coming from off-island will take the 9:45AM ferry from Bristol, RI, arriving on Prudence Island at 10:15AM. Off-island participants will be transported down to the race site at the south end of the island. Prudence Island residents are welcome to arrive at the T-wharf for registration beginning at 10AM. The 5K race will begin at 11:30AM and the 1 Mile Walk will begin at 11:45AM. Award ceremony will be at 1PM (due to island logistics, these times might vary slightly). Participants will be brought back to the ferry landing for a 2:30PM departure, returning to Bristol at 3:00PM. We'll have great raffle prizes to give out while we wait for the awards ceremony to begin! We will also provide snacks like bagels, fruit, and beverages.

Course Info: The course is relatively fast and flat but does run over some gravel/dirt roads with loose stones. There first mile starts flat but will soon gradually incline for the remainder of that first mile. The rest of the course is relatively flat. There is a mix of paved and dirt roads, all of which take you through beautiful forests, coastal meadows and alongside the Bay. You are rewarded with spectacular views during your run! Visit our website, http://www.nbnerr.org/5K.html to view a map of the course.

Waiver: You will be asked to sign a waiver when you arrive at the race site to pick up your bib number. Due to island logistics, there is no pre-race day packet pick-up.

Parking: Parking in Bristol is available in municipal parking lots located on Thames Street, near where you get on the Prudence Island ferry. There is also street parking in Bristol, east of Hope Street - just be sure to check for limited or Resident-only signs on these streets.

Transportation: For Non-Prudence Island Residents, the cost of your ferry ticket and island transportation is included in your registration fee. There will be a race volunteer at the ferry landing to provide you with your round-trip ticket upon arrival. Once on the island, Reserve vehicles and buses will transport participants to the race site.

Registration/Packet Pick-up: Please note that due to Island logistics, registration will be limited so be sure to register early to secure your spot. We will be unable to accommodate any last-minute or day-of registrations and packet pick-up will take place the morning of the event. Thank you for your understanding!
