Over the River and Through the Woods Trail Run/Hike...

• 5K Run / Walk:- Run 3.1 Miles

5K trail run/waterfall hike along a scenic trail through the Vielmetti-Peters Reserve,just on the edge of the Queen City of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan--Marquette! Race downhill at the start, and then over the river on a footbridge before continuing through the woods while tackling several challenging hills. While you run, you'll pass several signs that detail the unique flora and fauna of the area.  Be sure to visit the Reserve again to read them, unless you're a speed reader...The race will take you around a large loop, trace your steps, and then jump off to the second loop, which will give you an idea of your curren standing before the final stretch back to the start--downhill at the beginning but the finish is a steep uphill, so dig in while the spectators cheer you across the finish line. The race will be followed by an afterparty and silent auction at a local brewery with free dinner for all race participants (donations accepted for family and friends).

All proceeds go to support the UP Land Conservancy's stewardship mission--making sure that properties we protect like the race course at the Vielmetti-Peters Reserve are taken care of and have adequate trail mainentance, signs and parking, and can be monitored to ensure that we are honoring our promise to protect land today for life tomorrow.

Event details and schedule

Packet pickup: Friday from 5-7 p.m. at Lowe’s in Marquette, or Saturday (Run/Hike Day) from Noon to 1:45 at the run/hike site.

Getting to the start: You are welcome to park along Brickyard Road or in the parking lots at the beginning of Brickyard Rd (PetSmart, Lowe’s) and walk the 800 yards to the starting line.

Race start time: The race will start at 2pm with competitive runners starting at the front and hikers starting at the back. 

Afterparty: After the race at 4pm we will be having food and a silent auction at a local brewery in Marquette, MI. Come enjoy food on us as a thank you for supporting our small non-profit!
