Superheroes 4 Orphans 5k walk/run...

HOPE worldwide Africa would like to invite you, your friends and neighbors to participate in its’ exciting 3^rd annual Atlanta4Africa 5k walk/run to raise funds to provide care and support for orphans in Africa. Athletes, families with strollers, canine companions, and all aspiring superheroes will be participating in this event as we do our best to be heroes to the true superheroes, the orphans of Africa. The event will commence with a 5k run, followed by a casual 5k walk, and will end with an attempt at breaking the world record for “Largest African Dance”.  The theme of the event will be “Superheroes4Orphans” since many of our superheroes were orphans themselves at one time and we want to be superheroes for the orphans in Africa that are so easily forgotten.

Due to AIDS, the orphan epidemic in Africa continues to grow. UNICEF has estimated that there are now 18,000,000 orphans that now face increasingly desperate challenges due to a lack of health care, education, nutrition, child protection, and increasing poverty. HOPE worldwide has worked with orphans in Africa for 20 years and has provided care and support to 172,000 orphans and vulnerable children in Kenya, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Botswana, and South Africa.

The Early Childhood Development program has helped 20,000 little children. “Best Practice” models for community-based comprehensive care and support have been developed and need to be scaled up to meet the needs of these children. 

Event details and schedule

October 8 at 9am we will meet at the Campanile on Georgia Tech's campus. There will be a liability waiver to fill out upon registration. 

We encourage participants to dress up like superheroes. After the run we will attempt to break the world record for "largest African dance", have entertainment and superheroes available for photo ops.
