The annual KU Veterans 5K, hosted by the KU Student Veterans of America and the Veterans Alumni Network, honors our past/present veterans and raises awareness of the roles veterans play in our university and community. The run begins and ends at Memorial Stadium, traveling through the KU campus past KU’s five war memorials.
We dedicate the 2016 run to honoring our Vietnam Veterans. This year marks the 30th anniversary of KU's dedication of our Vietnam War memorial - the first on-campus commemoration in the nation. It honors 57 students and alumni who died or were declared missing. We also join the nation in commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War, which extends from Memorial Day 2012 through Veterans Day 2025.
All proceeds from the Veterans Day Run support KU’s Wounded Warrior Scholarship Fund, the KU Student Veterans of America (SVA) chapter, and the new KU Student Veteran Center.
Virtual Run option available as well.
The 5K route will follow Memorial Drive, which passes each of the five war memorials on the KU campus. This W-shaped drive runs from West Campus Road east to Mississippi Street north of Snow, Strong and Bailey halls. It was designed to complement the Memorial Carillon and Campanile, honoring the 277 KU alumni, students, faculty and staff who died in World War II and the more than 7,000 who served.
