Blue Angels Memorial Run - 10K & 5K - Honoring Capt. Jeff Kuss, USMC...

The first ever Blue Angels Memorial 10K & 5K Run honoring Capt. Jeff Kuss, USMC, will be open to the public and take place during the peak of autumn at Naval Air Station Patuxent River the morning of the air show festivities.  The out-and-back course starts from the airport’s taxiway, within view of the Blue Angels’ jets, and proceeds down to a scenic road flanked by the Chesapeake Bay and the lush woods of Patuxent River.  The race begins and ends on the airfield’s taxiway adjacent to the energetic spectators that have come to watch the afternoon flying events.  There is no better post-race event then enjoying free access to witness the phenomenal lineup of air show performers, to include the U.S. Navy’s world renowned flight demonstration squadron, the Blue Angels.  

Certificates will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers in the following categories:  Overall, 12 & under, 13-20, 21-30, 31-40, 41-50, 51-64, 65+.  All Run/Walk participant ages 12 & under will receive a certificate of completion.   

The uniqueness of the event, beauty of the route, and 750-person limit guarantee this event will sell out, so register early to ensure a spot! 

This event has been established in cooperation with the Blue Angels Association and the Wingman Foundation (501c3).  All proceeds from the race will go to benefit the wife and children of Capt. Kuss, who was killed in a tragic flight mishap earlier this year.

Note that this event is not affiliated with the Department of Defense and not officially endorsed by the US Navy or Marine Corps. 

Event details and schedule

Access to NAS Patuxent River will be open to the general public at 8am on Saturday, October 29th. Enter through Gate 1 at the corner of 235 and Pegg Rd.  Please ensure that you have picture identification with you in order to access the military installation.  Follow signs for Air Show General Parking (free). Packet Pickup and the Starting line will be a short walk.  Expect a detailed map to be posted to our website as the race gets closer. 

When entering your race shirt size please take care to view the sizing charts as they are different between the Men's and Women's cuts.  There will be no shirt exchanges.  Register here until 10/20/16 to guarantee your shirt size.  You will not be guaranteed a shirt if you register after October 20th.  

The 10K Run is open to runners age 13 and up.  

The 5K Run/Walk is open to all ages. Participants that are 12 & under must be accompanied by a participating parent/guardian.

All participants are expected to be able to finish their race by noon to allow time for the race staff to clear and give the taxiway back to the airfield for the air show aircraft.

Registration is $30 for all races and age groups until October 11th when the price goes up to $35.  After October 20th the registration cost will be $40.  There will be no race day registration.

Friday, October 28th, 10:30-6pm: Walk-in Registration and Packet Pick-up. Held at CROSSFIT PAX located at 22378 Three Notch Road, Unit B Lexington Park, MD (behind Smokey Joe's). 

Saturday, October 29th, 8:15-0945: Packet Pick-up for runners already registered. THERE WILL BE NO RACE DAY REGISTRATION.

Saturday, October 29th, 10:00:  10K Start

Saturday, October 29th, 10:10: 5K Start

This event will take place rain or shine.
