Description

Upper Manhattan's diverse and picturesque Washington Heights neighborhood provides the backdrop for this 5K. On a hilly course that circles Fort Tryon Park and the historic Cloisters, runners are serenaded by musical groups playing—you guessed it—salsa, blues, and Irish folk music, plus gospel, merengue, and jazz!

Races for youngsters ages 2 to 12 are held after the 5K—between 50 feet and 1/5 of a mile on Fort Washington Avenue. They’ll sprint to the finish banner, where every kid will receive a medal from New York City firefighters and police officers.

Net proceeds from the 2017 NYRR Washington Heights Salsa, Blues, and Shamrocks 5K will directly benefit The Armory Foundation.

Event hashtag: #WashHeights5K—use it in your public tweets and Instagrams to be automatically entered into the NYRR Social Hashtag Challenge to win prizes!

Live unofficial results are available during the race at liveresults.nyrr.org. Features include leaderboards, map tracking, and an individual runner search that can be shared on Facebook and Twitter. Tell your friends and family to follow your progress, and because the system works great on mobile devices, you can get unofficial results right after the race!
