Cajun Country Run - Half Marathon (road), 10k (trail) & 5k (trail)...

Description:  The Cajun Country Half-Marathon is Acadiana’s oldest half-marathon and we now feature a 10k and 5k trail run. The event is conveniently set in the early winter and will provide a perfect warm-up race for the winter marathons in early 2015.  Walkers are encouraged to participate.  This event is held at Acadiana Park and Nature Station which is home to some of TRAIL’s proud projects:

HALF MARTHON (100% pavement):  The course is USATF certified and is now a single loop and 100% on pavement.  There are a few small climbs that are less than 25′.  This is great race for the beginner as well as the seasoned endurance athlete.  Walkers are welcomed to participate.  Awards:  1st, 2nd & 3rd overall, 1st Masters, 1st Grand Masters, 1st, 2nd & 3rd in each age group.  This year we are introducing the Baby Stroller division with prizes for 1st and 2nd male and female (actual  baby can be replaced with a 20 pound bag of Supreme Rice)

10k & 5k TRAIL RUN:  Over the years we added a 10k and 5k trail run to the Cajun Country.  The trail run will be on the recently acquired +100 acres of wooded property North of the Acadiana Park Nature Station and along the Vermilion River, slight rolling hills in and out of the woods.

• SANTA CLAUSE DIVISION - All distances.  Run the race in your Santa or Mrs. Santa attire and win a bage of gift certificates.

 

PARKING OPTIONS:  This has been a problem in the past with road closures starting about 30 minutes prior to the start.  This was compounded with the later start for the 10k and 5k.  This year we will eliminate much of the parking at Acadiana Park along Alexander and near the tennis courts.  BEST PLAN OF ACTION FOR PARKING:  Get there early and park at David Thibodaux School.  Approach the school from the South or West.  If you are traveling along I-10 or North of I-10 on I-49, University, etc. then take Willow St. to Teurlings Dr.  Take a right onto Teurlings Drive after you cross over the rail road tracks, take a left into the school parking lot.

 

 

If you are traveling North on Hwy 90 (coming from New Iberia, Youngsville, etc.) turn right onto Pinhook Rd.  (2nd intersection pass the Lafayette Airport).  Pinhook Rd becomes Teurlings Dr. after it crosses Mills Hwy (Breaux Bridge Hwy).

 

 

If you are traveling from ULL area or other neighborhoods in Southern part of Lafayette take Pinhook Rd., Pinhook Rd becomes Teurlings Dr. after it crosses Mills Hwy (Breaux Bridge Hwy).

 

 

POST EVENT PARTY INCLUDES:  We always have beer (Bayou Teche, Parish Brewing, Michelob Ultra, Budweiser and much more); we always have water from Kentwood; Our post run food menu will include something with Supreme Rice.
