The Flint Hills Trail 40 Mile and Marathon is being postponed until 2017 and will not be ran in 2016.
We know this is disappointing news to hear and hope the following explanation gives you relief that 2017 will be the best year yet for the race.
Many of you have noticed that registration has not opened for the Flint Hills 40 Mile and Marathon and the opening date has continually been delayed. We love the enthusiasm of everyone that has reached out to us about the race and love and appreciate all of you and your patience. Thank you.
Our main goal for all of our races is to keep the very high standard that all of our events have become known for. A beautiful and amazing course is always a big part of that. Runners rave about how beautiful of a course this is and we couldn't agree more. We have been working with the associated cities and trails that the race interacts with and a major portion of trail heading both ways out of town is going to be under heavy construction during the race date.
The two viable options that we had were to move the race or postpone it. Moving to a different city with a new start/finish point and a new course. Effectively making the entire event a brand new event. Even though the race would still have been a blast, it wouldn't have the same feel or character that the Flint Hills Trail 40 Mile and Marathon has become known for. Postponing the date would put the race in the fall when we already have the Ultra Extravaganza in the same area. To keep the high standard of the race, we then had to make the difficult choice to postpone it until 2017.
Thank you to everyone who has reached out to us about the event. We have a few things in store for 2017 that will make the best that it has ever been! We all hope that you have a wonderful racing season and hope to see you at one of our many other events in the near future.
