Description

The 2nd Annual Atlanta Lab Rescue 5K is our largest fundraiser for Atlanta Lab Rescue. ALR's mission is to rescue Labrador Retrievers and Lab Mixes from overwhelmed shelters and abusive situations and place them in secure, loving homes. We average 40-50 dogs in the program at any given time and in our first 7 years, we have rescued over 3000 dogs. Our website is www.atlantalabrescue.com.

Event information

The Atlanta Lab Rescue 5K fun run is a 5k (3.15) mile run that is flat to slightly rolling benefiting the Atlanta Lab Rescue. Presenting sponsor is Cobb County Toyota along with several other sponsors including: X3 sports, Revolution Chiropractic, MBT Running Shoes, James Coyle, Realtor, Keller Williams Cityside, HITT Contracting, and Staff Zone. The race will be held on Sunday, November 20th, 2016 beginning at 9:00 AM at Jim Miller Park, 2245 Callaway Rd SW, Marietta, GA 30008. Each runner will run out Al Bishop then take a left on County Services then it will loop back around on County Services and then back down Al Bishop the course is a L shape course.

Registration fee includes long sleeved dri-fit shirt. The 5K will be timed by Elite Race Timing at www.eliteracetiming.com. Each participant will receive a race bib with a timing chip. Results will be provided at the end of the 5K and will be posted to our website. Awards will be provided to the top male and female winner overall, along with winners from each age group by gender and we'll also have 3 top dog awards!

Event Details and Schedule

Early registration up till October 17th is $30 after October 17th the race entry will go up to $35 and race day registration will be $40 for the 5K. RACE T-SHIRTS WILL NOT BE GUARANTEED AFTER  NOVEMBER 1ST. Runsignup.com registration will close on November 16th at midnight.

Participation rules

The Atlanta Lab Rescue 5K is open to the community, including: children, strollers and dogs! Children under 7 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian during the race and dogs must be on a leash at all times per Cobb County laws.

For your dog’s safety, and to make this event enjoyable for all, participants must abide by the rules listed below. We encourage the participation of dogs that are accustomed to regular exercise and are well adjusted to crowds and noisy environments with large numbers of people and other dogs.

1. Dog must be current on all shots and rabies vaccination.
2. Dog must wear an ID Tag.
3. No dogs in heat and no aggressive dogs.
4. Dog must be leashed (6 ft. max length) and in control. No retractable leashes please.
5. You must pick up after your dog. 
6. A participant can have no more than two dogs under his or her control. Children must be at least 13 years old to participate with a dog without adult supervision.
7. Strollers are allowed in the race, but for the safety of our runners, we ask that anyone participating with a stroller to please start in the back.


5K Course 

The Atlanta Lab Rescue 5k (approximately 3.15 miles) begins and ends at Jim Miller Park. The race will begin at 9:00 AM.

Participants will have a timing chip on their bib which ensures accurate finish times for all participants.

The course begins on Al Bishop road and run straight for down Al Bishop till they reach County Services. Each runner will take a left on County Services run out then there will be a U-turn on County Services where the runners will turn around and run back to Al Bishop where they will take a right and run to the finish line at Jim Miller Park.

Parking Instructions

Jim Miller Park has 600 parking spaces available so there is plenty of parking in the parking lot right next to where the race begins.

Rain or shine this event will take place but in the event of inclement weather involving lightening or hazardous conditions, please check our website home page at www.atlantalabrescue.com and facebook for Atlanta Lab Rescue for up to date information.

This is a volunteer run event for a 501(c) non-profit organization. While we appreciate that schedules change and things come up, we have a strict no-refund policy for those registrants who find themselves unable to participate on race day. If you aren't able to participate in the event, we hope you will find some consolation in the fact that this is a fundraiser benefiting dogs in overcrowded shelters that need rescue to save their lives, which we believe is a great cause! No transfers from year to year or person to person. No t-shirts will be mailed unless you have signed up as a Phantom Runner.

Race Packet Pick Up-UPDATED

We will have packet pick up on Friday, November 18th from 11-3 PM at Road Runner Sports in Marietta,GA. The address is 1311 Johnson Ferry Road, Marietta,GA 30068. You can also register for the race on the Packet Pick up Day, the registration will be $40. If you cannot make it to the early packet pick up on Friday, November 18th, you can pick up your packet on race day morning at Jim Miller Park from 7:30-8:45 AM.

Chip Timing and Bibs

The 5K will be timed by Elite Race Timing at www.eliteracetiming.com. Each participant will receive a race bib with a timing chip attached to the bib. 

Results will be provided at the end of the 5K. Results will be posted to our website and to the runsignup.com website shortly after the race. Awards will be provided to the top  male and female winner overall, along with winners from each age group by gender, 3 top dog awards and finisher ribbons for the 1K.

What to Wear

Dress in comfortable running attire and proper running shoes.  Make sure you check the weather that morning because you may have to layer since the race is in November.

Finish Line & Festival

Our race course is a L shape which allows us to have our start and finish lines in the same area. Upon completing the race, please plan to stay for refreshments, DJ and music, awards,  and sponsor booths.

First Aid, Restrooms, Personal Belongings

In case of an emergency, please let one of our volunteers, police officers, EMS teams know immediately. We will have an emergency first aid area available at the start/finish area.

Restroom facilities will be available at the start/finish area

Please do not bring personal belongings with you to the race. The Atlanta Lab Rescue Committee and it's volunteers cannot be responsible for lost or stolen items. We do not have an area of safe keeping for your personal items.
