Rare is Beautiful is a recognized, non profit, 501(c)(3) organization. The mission of Rare is Beautiful is to find a cure for Peutz-Jeghers Syndrome(PJS), spread awareness for the disease, and assist families who have children already stricken with cancer. PJS is a rare genetic disease which affects the STK11/LKB1 gene that suppresses tumor growth throughout the body. As a result, cancer risk is multiplied considerably without proper monitoring and surveillance. PJS affects as few as 1 in 300,000 people, but it goes undiagnosed often. This is our first ever 5K run/walk family fun day. It will take place on Sunday, April 2, 2017 and is set to begin and end at the Elmwood Park Memorial Middle School / High School. Following the race, there will be food, fun, and activities for all to enjoy. Please join us to run, walk, or just enjoy the festivities.
