Ladiga Marathon & Half Marathon

- The Inaugural Ladiga Marathon and Half Marathon will be run on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at 8:00 AM. The course runs on the scenic Chief Ladiga Trail, a pedestrian and cyclist only paved trail that stretches 33 miles from Anniston, Alabama to the Alabama/Georgia state line. The Chief Ladiga Trail also connects to the Silver Comet Trail in Georgia, which stretches another 60 miles, making the two trails over 92 miles long and the second longest paved pedestrian path in America!
The course runs through Piedmont, Alabama, a quaint, friendly town along the Chief Ladiga Trail and past forests, farmlands and streams.
The Ladiga Marathon & Half Marathon are part of the Run the Rails Challenge in which participants run a marathon or half on Saturday, February 25, in the Rock the Comet Marathon & Half Marathon and then run a marathon or half in the Ladiga Marathon & Half Marathon on Sunday, February 26.
Scenic route through small town Alabama. The course starts in the friendly town of Piedmont at the Piedmont Sports Complex. The course does a short out and back on Sports Complex Drive and then runs along a gravel path for about .2 of a mile before turning onto the Chief Ladiga Trail. The route takes runners through the town of Piedmont, Alabama as well as through shaded woods and over streams.
Full and half marathon participants will run along the same course. Half marathoners will complete one out-and-back. Full marathoners will turn around just past the half marathon turnaround and complete a double out-and-back on the Chief Ladiga portion of the course.
Course layout as an out-and-back (or double out-and-back) will allow participants to see one another multiple times as well as give spectators more options to see their runners.
