Description

 - Approximately 1 in 8 people struggle with hunger daily in the USA. Here in Western North Carolina, 1 in 7 people and 1 in 4 children struggle with hunger. Nationwide, it figures out to be approximately 42 million people - approximately 13 million of which are children and at least 5 million of which are senior citizens! Hunger touches every community in America, including your own, whether you see it every day or not. Join us in our partnership to help end this epidemic here in America -- "No one can thrive on an empty stomach"

We at the WCU Student Association of Nutrition and Dietetics in collaboration with Lambda Chi Alpha fraterinity wish to do as much as we can to help end this epidemic going on in our country. Therefore, we are hosting this fundraising event, which is a non-competitve 5k to raise money for Feeding America, a non-profit organization that combats hunger in the U.S. This 5k is also designed to incorporate healthy lifestyles by encouraging being active in collaboration with the fundraiser. You may register to participate as a runner or a walker for the 5k. We do not have a preference, we simply wish to raise awareness and donations through community participation.

All proceeds from this event, being held on March 18th, 2017, will go directly to being donated to Feeding America. For every $1 we are able to donate, it will be turned into 11 meals that will go to individuals suffering from hunger in the United States of America! The Feeding America branch that gives to Western North Carolina was able to supply 11, 815, 488 meals last year. By hosting this fundraiser, we hope to help them further their cause and increase this number of meals distributed to Western North Carolina as well as the nation as a whole.

If you do not wish to participate in the actual 5k, but would still like to make a donation to the cause, please contact [email protected] or [email protected] for further information on how to connect to make the donation.
