The Brownsville Crime Stoppers in conjunction with the Brownsville Police Department will be sponsoring a 5k race/walk on Saturday March 11, 2017. This is the first year that the Brownsville Crime Stoppers will be hosting this event with hopes for maximum community involvement.
Brownsville Crime Stoppers has entered its 36th year of existence and has expanded its area to include the rural areas of the southern half of Cameron County and BISD. The proceeds will be used to create scholarships for the top student of each High School in the Law Enforcement field.
It was through this that the idea of hosting our own event as part of community involvement was born. Throughout the years Crime Stoppers calls have been a tremendous asset to the Police in solving major crimes such as burglary rings, recovering stolen property, shutting down drug houses, and solving murder cases with practically no leads.
Since inception, 1300 criminals and over 14 million dollars of property and drug seizures have been taken off our Brownsville streets.
Over 23 thousand dollars were approved to be paid out to anonymous tipsters last year alone in amounts ranging from $50 to $1000 – depending upon the nature and seriousness of the crime – and all of this in complete cooperation with the Brownsville Police Department and other law enforcement agencies!
Every dollar goes a long ways towards making the Brownsville area a safer place for all of us, especially for our children.
