Description

Event:  3rd Annual Fast & Furriest 5K Race/Walk:  On Sunday, April 9, 2017, Operation Paws for Homes will be hosting its third annual Fast and Furriest Event at Monocacy Village Park in Frederick, Maryland.  Our 2016 event attracted over 500 participants and raised over $11,000 for our organization.  We hope to draw more participants after making some adjustments to our format.

The event will start a little later (10AM) with a 5k run or walk.  A 'sleep in' option is offered this year as well.  Course is certified by USATF and will be run according to certified course.  http://www.usatf.org/events/courses/maps/showMap.asp?courseID=MD15011NP

Dedication:  We are proud to, once again, dedicate this event to Anthony M. Capobianco and his family.  At the age of three, Anthony was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and became wheelchair-bound at the age of 12.  Anthony passed away in March, 2015, at the young age of 36.  Anthony was compassionate, brave, kind, patient, honest and loyal.  He loved and appreciated life and lived it with passion each day despite the barriers in his life.  Anthony loved all animals, especially dogs.  Dogs touched his heart deeply, and he cared for them tenderly and with love. He couldn't stand the thought of a dog being hungry, abused or without a good loving home.  We know Anthony will be watching over this event.  Help us keep his dream alive.  Your participation will help Operation Paws for Homes to provide medical care, foster homes and forever homes to many very deserving dogs.

About OPH:  Operation Paws for Homes (OPH) is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization, federal ID number 45-2785962.  You will receive a tax receipt for your records and, if requested, a copy of our tax exemption letter from the IRS.  OPH is an all-breed dog rescue serving Maryland, DC, Virginia and southern central Pennsylvania consisting of a network of volunteers and foster homes.  We do not have a facility nor do we receive funding from local, state or federal sources.  We partner with high-kill shelters in the south in an effort to save as many dogs that, by no fault of their own, end up in the shelter waiting for someone to take them home.  Many do not make it out of the shelter.

OPH & Semper K-9:  http://www.semperk9.org/ matches rescue dogs with wounded, critically-ill and injured members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families.  Semper K9 adopts dogs from local rescue organizations to give them a special chance to be the best friend and companion to a needy service member.  We are proud that Semper K9 considers, and have trained, some of our adoptable dogs for this tremendous opportunity. We are thrilled to be partners with them.

Pricing:  $30 per person ($25 if registered by 1/31/17)

You can bring YOUR dog to this event - please be sure your dog is leashed and well-behaved.  No retractible leashes please.

OPH volunteers look forward to seeing you there.
