 Refuge127 Ministries began as a desire to fulfill the call of James 1:27 – “to visit and help and care for the orphan’. In January 2008, Mandy and Shay Holloway and Lacey Melancon began to work with the children living at the Lafourche Parish Juvenile Justice Facility in Thibodaux, Louisiana. In October of 2011, Mandy and Shay Holloway were invited to go on a mission trip with a group to Kachomo,Africa. During their trip the vision of the school expanded and Hope Refuge School was established.  Refuge 127 officially became a non-profit organization in Feb 2012 and transitioned into a new work in Uganda.  Since their first trip the vision for the school and orphanage in Uganda has multiplied and Refuge 127 is committed to providing the children of Kachomo, Uganda suitable living quarters, proper medical care, nutritious food, and an excellent education for years to come. Our current project in Uganda is building classrooms, dormitories, restrooms, and a church/hall. We have successfully installed two deep water wells that provide clean water for the children and surrounding communities including a near by hospital and prison. We are looking to complete the Hope Refuge school grounds with a fence and solar panels for safety of the children. Hope Refuge School is located in a small village called Kachomo, Uganda. When built, it will be home to more than 550 at-risk children.
