- Welcome to the first annual Portsmouth Half Marathon.
Portsmouth is one of the most livable cities in the US. Come for the day or make it a weekend adventure. Portsmouth has much to offer with great restaurants, hotels, B&B and you can’t beat walking around Market Square on a sunny day!
Jump into Spring on this beautiful rural course that runs on the outskirts of Portsmouth and in the historic towns of Greenland and Newington. This new half marathon features a flat, fast and easy course.
You will enjoy distant views of the Great Bay Estuary as well as run past the Great Bay National Wildlife Refuge, an 1,100 acre habitat for many endangered species. Midpoint of the race you will surely enjoy the manicured homes and buildings situated in the historic Newington Historic District.
Starting at Mercedes-Benz of Portsmouth you will make a short loop in a rural neighborhood down Portsmouth Ave to Greenland Rd and back past the start area (where you can drop extra clothing!). You then head out onto Newington Road which has on its left distant views of the Great Bay Estuary and on the right pastoral farm fields.
As you cross the town border into Newington, you will experience the serenity of the Great Bay National Wildlife preserve on one side or see remnants of the Pease AFB on the right. Soon you will come to the village area of Newington and pass centuries old stone walls and cemetaries.
At the turn around you will be treated to views of the Newington Historic district complete with the Old Town Hall and a historic Zion Church. Next you will high five your friends on the out and back section and retrace your steps back to Mercedez-Bens of Portsmouth for the finish.
