We invite runners and walkers to experience the third largest island in the U.S. during the 18th Annual Prince of Wales Island Marathon and Relays and 5th Annual Half Marathon, Saturday, May 27, 2017 in southeast Alaska.The course is the standard marathon distance of 26.2 miles and is USATF certified, #AK14007FW. Divisions include full marathon and half-marathon as well as 4 and 8 person marathon relay teams. We welcome runners and walkers. (Please note: walkers will begin the course at 8:00 am with runners.)
The course will provide a challenge for all participants beginning and ending at the Craig High School, Craig, AK. The course will take you through mountain vistas and stunning scenery. Glimpses during your run or walk of wildlife are not uncommon.
Race packets and shirts will be available for pick up at the CTA Hall in Craig (race headquarters), Friday May 26, from 2:00 until 8:00 pm. A reasonably priced dinner will be available Friday evening 6:00 to 7:30 pm at the CTA Hall. Participant orientation will follow dinner and our guest speaker, Carlyn Shaw, will conclude the evening's festivities.
Carlyn Shaw has run 13 half marathons and 3 full marathons. An insightful writer and inspirational speaker, Carlyn empowers others to see setbacks as stepping stones in disguise. Having overcome many challenges, including her diagnosis with MS at age 19, Carlyn chooses to "let fear be her fuel". Saturday,transportation will be provided from local lodges and bed and breakfast establishments to the starting line at Craig High School for those participants who make the request at the CTA Hall Race Headquarters on Friday, May 26nd, 2:00 to 8:00 pm.
Saturday morning the event begins at Craig High School at 8:00 am for all categories including marathon walkers. The course will be open for eight hours.
The event will end at the Craig High School where post race food items, including our traditional homemade cookie station, will be available. Ten minute massages will also be available for a nominal fee. Van transportation to local lodging facilities will be available.
In order to guarantee a shirt for race day please take advantage of Early Bird rates and register before midnight Alaska Time April 15th. Standard registration rates will apply for those registering after midnight (Alaska Time) April 15th and a shirt will be ordered but may not be received by race day.
Please note, online registration will close at midnight Alaska Time, Wednesday, May 24th. In person registrations will be accepted Friday, May 26th at CTA Hall, Race Headquarters, Craig Alaska, 2:00 pm until 7:00 pm provided the maximum capacity of 400 prticipants has not been met.
