Motion for the Ocean...

The 5th Annual Motion for the Ocean 5k run/walk  will be held on Sunday, April 30th at Dr. Von D. Mizell-Eula Johnson State Park, formally known as John U. Lloyd State Park, ON THE BEACH (half on sand and half on a dirt path along the beach). This will be a beautiful morning run with the ocean as your back-drop and the waves, your music. We expect the race to be a great turn-out of approximately 300 people from Nova and the Broward County community. Accuchip Race Timing Services will provide the timing chips and race results. Participants will be given t-shirts to commemorate their achievement. Snacks and drinks will be provided at the end of the race during a small post race celebration and an  award ceremony to recognize the top runners.

All proceeds from the Motion for the Ocean 5k race entry fees will be donated to Arthur R. Marshall Foundation for the Everglades.  This foundation supports the restoration and preservation of the greater Everglades ecosystem and its historic “River of Grass” through science-based education and Everglades outreach programs for all ages. It is the educational mission of the Arthur R. Marshall Foundation that teaching this generation of young Floridians will ensure the Everglades and other nearby wetlands are preserved for future generations.

Event details and schedule

Dr. Von D. Mizell-Eula Johnson State Park will open at 7:00am for race participants. Please remember to bring cash to pay the park entrance fee and carpool to save money and the environment. We've reduced the registration fee to account for the park entrance fee this year. Registration/packet pickup is from 7:00am - 7:45am on the day of the race. Race begins at 8:00 am. There will be no packet pick-up available before the day of the race. Course is on the beach and on a trail along the beach so be prepared to run in sand for the majority of the time! Please dress for the weather the day of.
