_ 2017 Granite State 10 Miler & Martian Party:
This 10 mile road race takes runners along a challenging, yet beautiful, course during fall foliage in Concord, New Hampshire. You will run along a paved bike path, passed parks and forested trails, through gorgeous views of rivers and working farms, and all the while being cheered along by an entire community that embraces outdoor endurance sports. The race is hosted each year by the local running club, the Granite State Racing Team to raise proceeds for the Central New Hampshire Boys & Girls Club, the NHTI Track Team, and to support the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center space museum located next to the starting line. All runners and spectators alike are encouraged to dress up as Martians to receive discounts to the museum.
Check out the course section to watch a video preview and to explore an interactive map.
At the start, runners head south for a short loop on Fan Road before heading back north and crossing Institute Drive onto a paved path. The path which is less than a mile long crosses over the Merrimack River and ends at Eastman Street. The race continues on Eastman Street then left on Mountain Road past Shawmut Street. There will be police support in the Mountain Road area. The course turns right on Shaker Road for about two miles before turning left on Snow Pond Road. Both the midpoint of the race and the highest elevation are on Snow Pond Road. Runners turn right when Snow Pond Road crosses Shaker and head to the finish via the same route as before.
Water and port-o-potties will be stationed at the Shaker Road School. Runners will pass this spot at almost the 3 and 8 mile marks on the course. Water will also be available at about mile 5.5.
