The Run for the Children 5K will be held on Sunday, June 11th at 6:00pm at Chaney's Dairy Barn, 9191 Nashville Rd., Bowling Green, KY. The race takes runners and walkers past scenic farmland during a unique early evening run. The course starts and ends at the iconic Chaney’s Dairy Barn. It is fully paved and relatively flat, with a few gently sloping areas. All pre-registered participants receive a free race t-shirt (race day participants as supplies last) and all participants will receive a free scoop of homemade ice cream, courtesy of Chaney’s.
This year’s race will benefit the Kentucky United Methodist Homes for Children and Youth (KyUMH). For over 145 years, KyUMH has served young people—originally as an orphanage and now offering care to children with histories of abuse, neglect and/or family trauma. In 2016 alone, KyUMH changed the lives of more than 800 Kentucky children through residential, community based and substance abuse recovery services. KyUMH is currently in the process of building a new campus that will allow them to invest in new programs to serve even more of the 7,000 children who are removed from their homes each year due to imminent danger. The new campus will feature state-of-the-art residential facilities and opportunities to collaborate with one of the best alternative education systems in the state.
