RUN4TROOPS Marathon/Relay                           Saturday, June 24, 2017

7:00 am   RACE STARTS at Hwy 136 Park Pavilion Trail Head - Dyersville, Iowa

Packet Pick up is Friday before race day, 11 AM – 8 pm at The Hilton Garden Inn or Saturday 6 am at the Start in Dyersville.  Mandatory  Meeting for ALL marathoners & Relay Generals at 6:40 am.

Shuttle Bus TO THE START for marathoners departs at 5:15 am SHARP from The Hilton Garden Inn.  Marathoners can leave a bag at the start to be taken to the finish area.  There will be shuttle vans for marathoners at the finish after the race to transport back to The Hilton Garden Inn.

Registration Closing Date: Tuesday before RACE DAY, unless we fill earlier (100 Relay Teams ONLY), RUN4TROOPS is going “green” with ALL on-line Registration (Except for RACE DAY).

Race Description:  This is a point to point, chip timed marathon distance trail run from Dyersville to Dubuque on the scenic and rustic Heritage Trail (Boston Qualifier).  This event can be completed as an individual marathoner ($75 before June 1, $85 after, $100 RACE DAY) or a relay team ($35/team member before June 1, $40 after, $45 RACE DAY).  Relay Teams can consist of 2 – 12 members in male, female, and co-ed categories.

The race caps out at 100 Relay Teams – so REGISTER EARLY!  NO REFUNDS AFTER June 1.

There are 6 legs to the race.  Distances; 6.6, 4.4, 3.6, 4.5, 3.4, and 3.7 miles.  Elevation is 957 ft at the start and 652 ft at the finish, with a peak of 1,078 at transition #1 in Farley.  The trail surface is mostly crushed limestone, but has a bit of everything from dirt to grass to black top.  About 70% of the trail is shaded with trees but there are a few stretches of direct sun exposure (mostly the first leg, which is early in the morning).  Check out the course map at www.run4troops.com .

This is a “military style” event, which means minimal support.  Each relay team will have a “General” who is responsible for coordinating the drop-off and pick-up of all team members at each transition/check point.  The General can be a runner, and a team can have a driver who is not a runner.  Working thru the logistics prior to the event is very important (recon strongly advised).

There will be shuttle busses for individual marathon runners (ONLY) to provide transportation from the host Hotel (Hilton Garden Inn, 1801 Greyhound Park Dr) in Dubuque to the start in Dyersville.  Busses depart Dubuque at 5:15 am sharp and are scheduled to arrive at the start between 5:45 and 6:00 am.  Race starts at 7:00 am.  Reserve your spot on the bus on the registration form.

Packets will be available Friday before race day at the Hilton Garden Inn from 11 AM – 8 pm and, again, at the start in Dyersville at 5:45 – 6:15 am.

There will be water/sports drink stations at each transition, as well as on carts traveling on the trail.  We highly recommend bringing your own fuel as well, as it is typically quite warm and you will most likely need water more often than at each transition.   Water is NOT available every mile.

The cut off points are at Budd Rd (Transition 4) - 6 hours, Durango (Transition 5) – 7 hours and Cut off time to the finish is 8 hours.  Timing chips will be pulled as these times are not met.

Food, beverage, music, and fun provided at the finish line at the Heritage Pond in Dubuque.  Shuttles will also be available after the race to transport marathoners back to the Hilton Garden Inn.

All proceeds from this event go to assist and support our military and their families in the tri-state area.  For more information about the RUN4TROOPS event, visit www.run4troops.com.  Email us at [email protected] with any questions and/or feedback.
