This 1, 2, or 3 mile Family Fun Run/Walk is designed to increase awareness of Cytomegalovirus (CMV).  June is CMV Awareness Month and this family event will help educate participants throughout the course with facts about the virus, symptoms, and potential side effects as a result of infection during pregnancy.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), congenital CMV (cytomegalovirus) is the most common viral cause of birth defects and developmental disabilities in the US. Each year, 30,000 children (1 in 150) are born with congenital CMV, causing 400 deaths and leaving 8,000 (1 in 750) children with permanent disabilities. In Oklahoma alone, 1 in 28 babies are born with a major birth defect which may be attributed to CMV.

 Anyone can become infected with CMV and most people don’t realize that they have been infected with the virus. However, one of the highest risk groups are pregnant women who have not yet contracted CMV prior to pregnancy, as they will possibly pass the virus to their developing child, causing potential birth defects.

Participants will receive a t-shirt and race bib with each registration.

Event details and schedule

Packet Pick-Up will be on Friday, June 23th at the Comanche County Health Department from 4:00- 7:00 or onsite Saturday morning from 7:30-8:00.

Virtual Participants will have their race bib and T-shirt mailed the week of the event.

Race will begin 8:30am on the Aggie Mile near the McMahon Centennial Complex and will not be a timed event. Parking for this event will be at the McMahon Centennial Complex (Student Union).  Come out with your family and smallest runners to enjoy fun a family friendly walk/run.

Register by Wednesday, June 7 to guarantee t-shirt and race bib.
