The Historic Bay Highlands Annual 5K is a local fundraiser to support our community and improve our parks.  Our goals include expanding a butterfly garden with native plants and a pathway, installing a rain garden to soak up excess rain and alleviate flooding at Augusta Park, and to provide a fun safe environment for kids to play.  

About us: The Bay Highlands community was officially incorporated in 1956, but it's history goes back much further.  For more on our history go to http://www.bayhighlands.org/history--by-street.  Also of historical significance, the race goes right past Frederick Douglas's house on the Chesapeake Bay.  To learn about Frederick Douglas and his beautiful home in Highland Beach go to http://www.highlandbeachmd.org/index.asp?Type=B_BASIC&SEC={18C159E9-B3B4-4963-9C22-37992CB67685}.  We are very thankful to our neighboring communities such as Highland Beach who continue to support our run. 

Registration: Please sign up to participate as a walker, runner, or volunteer.  Strollers and friendly pets on a leash are welcome.  The cost to participate is $22 per person.  There is a $7 fee for children ages 3-10 which covers the cost of their medal and refreshments.  There is a small signup fee per transaction on RunSignUp.  It is more economical to sign up a family or group at one time. I hope you find these costs reasonable.  This is a fundraiser after all for our community and parks.  Donations are always welcome!

**We are exploring moon bounce options and will post here if we are able to get one.** If you want to help make the moonbounce a reality please consider placing a donation when you register for the race or volunteer.  Simply send me a note and I will use 100% of your contribution towards the moonbounce.

Give-aways: Medals will be given to all participants.  Please register early!  Race day registrations will be taken, but for planning purposes it really helps if you can register by May 20th.  Thank you!!

Course: The race course is 2.5K, so participants who wish to do a 5K or more will repeat the course.  The race begins at Augusta Park and then the racers will head to Highland Beach.  It's a beautiful and mostly flat route that everyone is sure to love!  There is a modified course which includes a couple of steep hills for those that like a challenge.  Runners will start at approx. 9:10 am and walkers will follow immediately after. 

Timing: At this time the race is manually timed, but we do aspire to have it professionally timed.  It simply depends on the number of registered runners.  Pass the word, so we can have a better more professional race.  Thank you!

Finisher Party: After the Historic Bay Highlands 5K stay for an awesome Finisher Party at Augusta Park!  Enjoy the drinks and snacks provided by our sponsors.  Particpate in the Kids Book Swap.  Kids are encouraged to bring a book for a Book Swap after they finish racing, and everyone is welcome to participate in the fun.
