Description

Welcome!   This is a 5K (3.11-mile) road race through the rolling hills of the Dares Beach community to benefit the Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department.  The Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department is endeavoring to better serve the community by getting new facilities as well as replacing their 1994 E-1 Rescue Squad Vehicle.  This is most likely the first public road race staged in Dares Beach, and we invite you to be a part of it to support our heroes in the Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department.

Our parking is limited in the community, so we do not have the capacity for that many participants.  If you are interested in participating, please sign up early!

The event will be held rain or shine.

Please tune into our Facebook page for updates, pictures, and course maps.  If you have any questions, please contact Noah Wood at:  [email protected] or 443-310-6427

If you would like to make an additional donation to the Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department, you can do so on this area of their webpage at:

Also, if you are in the area after the race, the Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department is having their Annual Crab Feast at their fire station from 1-4 in the afternoon.    The Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department is located at:

   450 Solomons Island Road South/P.O. Box 976

Thank you for your attention, and we hope that you will consider joining us!

Course & Awards:

The course is a scenic mix of country road, rolling hills, shaded areas, and great views of the Chesapeake Bay as you run through the neighborhood.  Approximately 1-kilometer of the course is on a loose-gravel road with rocks and roots.  There's a long, steep up-and-downhill in the last mile.  There will be a water stop manned by volunteers in the middle of the course.  For more descriptions and maps, you are welcome to view the Facebook page for this event:  www.facebook.com/daringtheblaze5K

While this is a low-key race, there will be relatively inexpensive performance awards given at an awards ceremony after the last finishers.   The categories that will be rewarded are:

- Top 3 overall male and female

- Top overall male masters finisher (age 40 or older)

- Top overall female masters finisher (age 40 or older)

- Top overall male Dares Beach resident

- Top overall female Dares Beach resident

- Top 3 in each of these age categories:

  0-12, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80+

Whether you're gunning for a really fast time in the front of the pack, jogging and keeping it social, walking, or any combination, all goals and abilities are welcome!!!

Arrival & Parking Info - Please try to arrive between 7:00 and 7:30 to ensure you get a convenient parking spot, and that you have adequate time to check-in, stretch, and hydrate.

Waivers and ID - Registering for this event online or via the event's flier requires that you sign a waiver.  You are not required to have an ID, however, it never hurts to have one.

What to bring - Water, comfortable clothes for running in hot weather, an open mind, and a positive attitude.

Afterwards - There are no t-shirts, but we will have light refreshments including fruit, granola bars, Gatorade, and of course, water.  There will be an awards ceremony once everyone has finished the race.

Once again, check-in is at 7:00 A.M., and runners and walkers start simultaneously at 8:00 A.M.

Thank you!
