Description

Join TriToFinish in collaboration with organizers of the MUTT Series of races and the Bay City Morning Rotary Driathlon for the first ever Red Moon Night Trail Run!  The Red moon – or Sturgeon moon is a traditional name for the full moon that occurs in August and was named by Native American fishing tribes who knew that sturgeon in the Great Lakes were most easily caught under it.

The Race: Come out for the Red Moon Trail Run at Deerfield Nature Park in Mount Pleasant as runners embark on a 5k, 15k or 25k race along wide trails (not single track) through the woods – over and along the Chippewa River. Runners completing multiple laps will run through a chute located directly inside a 3200 square foot event tent. Finish early or spectating?  Feel free to bring and enjoy an adult beverage while cheering on those crushing the warm night run as they run past you through the tent.

Note:  Registration for this event is limited to just 300 participants, so sign up early!  The Inaugural Snow Moon Trail Run sold out nearly 2 months prior to race day!

Additional Purchases

To keep costs low to participants, we are making t-shirts an “additional purchase”.

Many participants have asked for to opt out of purchasing a t-shirt and receiving registration at a lower rate.  For this event, we have standardized the lower rate for ALL participants.  The OPTION is now to purchase a shirt at the bargain price of $5 when registering (hey – they cost us more than $8 each to have them made).

For those who don’t register in time, a limited number of Snow Moon Trail Run t-shirts in unknown sizes will be available race day for $10 each.  Don’t take the chance.  Buy yours when registering online!  Sizes available:

  • Unisex Small
  • Unisex Medium
  • Unisex Large
  • Unisex Extra Large
  • Unisex 2XL
  • Ladies Cut Small

Frequently Asked Questions

Will there be age group awards for this event?  Unfortunately, no.  Not THIS year anyway.

Can I bring my dog to this race?  Only if your dog…  a)    Doesn’t bite  b)    Is used to running trails at night  c)    Is tent trained (We don’t want to step in poo)

Do I need a head lamp?  YES.  Deerfield Nature Park will require all participants to have headlamps or flashlights for safety purposes.  You definitely will need one to see what you're running on.  Trail races by nature require greater attention to where one steps.  Darkness increases the need to be more aware of your footing.  We recommend you visit our friends/partners at Runners Athletic Stores in Mount Pleasant, Saginaw, Bay City, and Midland to find the best available options!

Will the trail be lit or marked?  The trail will not be lit.  However, there will be LED lights and course markings to guide runners through the course.  If you have your headlamp, you should have no problem seeing the signs.  ;)

Will there be an aid/water station on the course?  Yes.  There will be a water station at approximately the 1.5 mile mark.  This station will also have sports drink, gels and other carbs for those running the longer distances.

Do I need special running shoes for this race?  Not necessarily, though trail specific shoes would help tremendously in keeping your footing on this course.  We recommend you visit our friends/partners at Runners Athletic Stores in Midland, Saginaw, Bay City, and Mt Pleasant to find the best available options!

Can I walk or ruck instead of run?  Absolutely.  We ask that you sign up ONLY for the 1 Lap 5k or the 3 Lap 15k races and that you remain to the side of the trail and out of the path of runners if you choose to walk or ruck though.

Can I drink beer or wine in the tent?  Yes, Deerfield Nature Park allows open adult beverage containers in non-glass containers.  Bring your own.  Just don’t bring glass bottles.

Is camping or lodging available at Deerfield Nature Park?  Yes.  But... there are only 10 sites and they are rustic.  No lodging.  Campers will need to park and hike a short distance to the campsites.  There are rustic restrooms there.

Refund Policy

We completely understand that plans change and runners will sometimes be unable to compete in an event they've signed up for.  Unfortunately, refunds will not be provided for any event unless the event is cancelled for reasons beyond the control of Organizers.

Should a runner have an injury or other medical issue keeping them from competing in an event they've registered for then we would be happy to transfer their registration to a similar event up to and including the same event the following season.  Documented proof from a physician may be required to prove injury or medical issue.

Transferring registrations to other runners is NOT allowed.
