LRH-Shatter the Silence Luminary 5k walk/run is an event created to help prevent suicide and raise awareness about mental health.  Proceeds will be awarded as a grant to an area school or community to support suicide awareness and prevention efforts in their communities.

Shatter the Silence began as a grassroots effort in Rothsay MN in 2010 after the suicide of Ricky Carrillo in April 2009.  Ricky would've been a 2009 graduate of Rothsay Public School.  His family and friends hosted a 5k walk in the community for 5 years.  With proceeds from their event they were able to bring suicide awareness and prevention efforts to area communities.  

Since the inception of Shatter the Silence, we've teamed up with the Christopher Benz Foundation. Shatter the Silence works closely with the Benz Foundation on suicide prevention efforts throughout the state of MN.  This year Shatter the Silence is collaborating with Lake Region Healthcare to host the first annual 5k walk/run in Fergus Falls MN.

Thanks to all who believe this event is an important cause and have decided to be a sponsor.  We also thank all those who are participating in the 5k.  It truly takes a community to prevent suicide!

5:00pm: Registration

6:00pm:  Brief program with guest speaker

Sunset:  Walk/run begins on the Central Lakes Trail 

Registration includes event t-shirt, water, and refreshments.

Registered participants will receive a luminary bag and tea lite to decorate and set on our walk/run path as a way to honor loved ones lost to suicide. If you know someone who can't attend our event, or would like to purchase additional luminaries, the cost is $10 or $15/2 bags.

Resource tables regarding mental illness and area resources will also be present.   

Parking is available at DeLagoon Park.  Bathrooms will be onsite.  Please dress for the weather conditions.  Event will be postponed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather.
