Description

Welcome to the Wild. On this exciting trail you will be challenged. You will experience running right next to beaver work along Lake Woodhaven. There are 7 short hills to climb and descend. Most of the trail is single track with a few runs of double track. It is a short drive from Nashville and not far from I-40.  Start time is 11 am to allow you to sleep in your own bed and still make it to the start line on time. This series is a series for runners and to introduce the state parks of Tennessee to new people during the off season. Costs are kept low by volunteers who love the park.

Event details and schedule

Welcome to the 39th TN State Parks Running Tour, the oldest State Parks running series in the U.S. Pre-Entry is $10 per race. By running in >4 races, you earn a gift. There are 20 races in the tour, the first being Two Lakes Trail Run in Montgomery Bell State Park, on 10-7-17. The Awards Banquet is on the first Saturday in March. Mike Bell is the series Director.

Volunteers:Please contact the Race DirectorJohn Spencer, [email protected] if you are interested in volunteering. An award category in the Grand Prix competition was added 6 years ago, where race volunteers will get one point for working. The top volunteers will receive an award at the Banquet following the last race on March 3, 2018. To help with the Two Lakes Trail Run, arrive no later than 8:45 am. Volunteering does count as a qualifier for the 5 races needed to earn a prize at the Awards Banquet in March.

Trail Marking Volunteers:On Friday October 6th, the race director will need a couple of stalwart volunteers to walk the trail and put up ribbons and flags. They may also wield a root ax. This takes about 5 hours. Contact the RD, John Spencer at [email protected] if you can help with this. Volunteer credit is given for this. Also after the race we need a volunteer or two to retrieve the ribbons, flags and cones.

Walking Start 10 am:There will be an optional start for walkers at 10 am to allow walkers to finish in time to enjoy the post race activities. Walkers will take the course in a counter-clockwise direction which will allow them to see the oncoming runners who will start in a clockwise direction one hour later at 11 am. You can still walk at the 11 am start if that is more convenient for you. Be sure to get a big freehand "W" added to your race number.

What Jamie Dial said about the 2009 race: I had the pleasure of running the 2 lakes Trail. It was undoubtedly one of the most enjoyable runs I've had. I was in trail running heaven. The RD and MBSP folks must be passionate about having a great race. My first clue was the lady at the campground who gave me a description of the start and got me going. The trail was in EXCELLENT shape. In fact, it was odd to have a trail feel so good. Soon I realized why. I crossed paths with a Ranger blowing & CLEARING the trail! It was amazing.

What Cricket said about running in 2008: We ran it for fun last year, stayed near the back of the pack and had a BLAST!!! That was the first time we ever ran a trail run, and are looking forward to running it again.

Water Stations: There will be two water stops on the course. One is just before mile three. The other just after mile 5. If it is unseasonably warm a third water station will be set up.

Food at the finish line: It is likely that there will be trail mix bars, some energy bars, some breakfast bars, but we have also had a number of runners and volunteers bring homemade cookies as well and this is encouraged. There will be some electrolyte replacement beverage at the finish line.
