The Run Above The Clouds...

• 10K Run:- Run 6.2 Miles
• 5K Run:- Run 3.1 Miles
• 1 Mile Fun Run:- Run 1 Mile

The Run Above the Clouds 1 mile Fun Run, 5K, and 10K races have been reported to be the highest held in Georgia.  The races are over a beautifully scenic but challenging out and back course through the north Georgia mountains.  Occasionally a shy bear is spotted along the route.  Those charismatic shy bears are featured each year on the event t-shirts.

The race is held in conjuction with the Indian Summer Festival held at the Woody Gap School.  If you would like to check out the lovely mountain and lake views around Suches, just use Pegman (the yellow Google icon) on the Google map below  or visit suches.com.

The proceeds from Run Above the Clouds are used to furnish higher education scholarships to Suches students.  Most of these students attended Woody Gap School, the last K-12 public school in Georgia.

Event details and schedule

Location                                                                                                                                                   All three races are out and back and will start and finish at the Suches Community Center on State Highway 60 across from Woody Gap School in Suches, GA.  Suches is 16 miles north of Dahlonega.  From Dahlonega, follow  Highgway 60 north and continue on Highway 60 past the rock pile (Indian Princess Trahlyta's grave). Then, Highway 60 climbs eventually through Woody Gap where the Appalachian Trail crosses. Continue on to the Suches Community Center which is on the right just past the post office.  Free parking is available at the community center.

Run Above the Clouds Waiver (found at the bottom of form questions) must be signed in order to run in any race. 

10K & 5K Races  Fees for both races are $25 prior to Sept. 19th and $35 thereafter.  Only those runners who register prior to Sept. 19th will receive a high quality long-sleeved or short-sleeved shirt on race day.   Those who register after Sept. 18 can order (at the race) and have their shirt mailed to them- registration covers it.   Awards for both races will be given  2 deep (male, female) as well as by age groups:  19 & Under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+.  Remember to sign RATC waiver at end of form questions in order to run.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             

Fun Run Fee is $20 prior to Sept 19th and $25 thereafter. The runs start and finish at the Suches Community Center, across the street from Woody Gap School on Hwy. 60 North in Suches, Georgia (15 miles north of Dahlonega in the beautiful Suches Valley). 

The course for the runs goes by Woody Lake on Highway 60, then turns onto Cooper Gap Road at about the 3/4-mile mark. The turnaround for the 10K is in the small community of Mt. Airy.
