Lifesavers 5K...

• 5K Run:- Run 3.1 Miles

No parent wants to hear that their child has been injured, much less the need to go to a hospital.  Then the doctors saying the word "surgery". There are many families who habe these type of conversations on a daily basis.  We are lucky to live in a community that has access to an outstanding pediatric hospital...CHILDREN'S HEALTHCARE OF ATLANTA. LIFESAVERS 5K is a special event that started as a dream by a sweet 14 year old young lady who was treated at CHOA and wanted to show her appreciation for their love, friendship, and special way of making her feel at ease while recovery at the hospital.  

"Hi, my name is Emily Delk, and I am a freshman at Wesleyan School.  I play club soccer and involve myself in as many sports as possible such as volleyball, cross country, basketball, tennis and track.  While I was lying on the road after I fell off my bike, I prayed that I wouldn’t have to give any of that up. On June 20th, 2016 I was involved in a serious bike accident.  My right upper thigh was cut to the bone, from the inside of my thigh all the way to the outside. Luckily my neighbors cared for me (putting pressure on my leg to reduce bleeding, calling 911, keeping me calm).  Once the ambulance came, I was taken to Scottish Rite at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. I finally felt somewhat safe and secure. The hospital doctors went out of their way to provide me with a top plastic surgeon. That night I had a two hour surgery that included so many stitches they lost count. I stayed at Children’s for 3 days.  During my three day stay, everyone was kind and helpful.  I actually felt like everything was going to be alright and it’s the best feeling not to be scared anymore. This is why I am working with Kids Boost to plan the Lifesavers 5k, benefitting CHOA and its amazing workers!  It will be a timed race at Brook Run Park.  In one way or another CHOA has touched everyone’s lives! Please help me give back to the people who give their best! Thank you!"
