Description
Dale Mabry Elementary School is named after a U.S. Army Captain from Tampa who flew combat balloons in World War I. Captain Mabry died in 1922 in a dirigible crash.
Mabry Elementary opened in 1949 and welcomed students in 9 classrooms. Today, Mabry has almost 50 classrooms and can house approximately 780 students.
In the late eighties, a major renovation changed the physical appearance modernizing the school building and installing a bell tower in front of the administration office. Mabry students voted on the school mascot and selected the dolphin. Today, students are recognized at the "Mighty Dolphins" and share their pride through t-shirts and other dolphin themed items at school.
The staff recognized teal as the school color and requested the school colors change from green to teal during the renovations in the late eighties. The school was repainted in 1994 and trimmed in the color teal.
A survey was given to the school population in 1998 regarding school uniforms. The survey results indicated that parents, teachers, and students like the idea. The School Advisory Council then adopted mandatory uniforms for students and implemented the colors of red, white, and navy shirts and khaki shorts, pants, skirts, or dresses.
Mabry continues to be an "A" school, being recognized for its strong academic program, dedicated staff, and supportive parent involvement.
