Imagine if the last thing you said tonight was the last thing you said..... period.  Aphasia is a devastating consequence to stroke, brain injury, and other progressive diseases that rob individuals of their ability to express their thoughts and ideas.  Even with intact cognition, memory, and intellect, individuals suffering from aphasia often feel isolated not being able to return to the vocational or recreational pursuits they had prior to their diagnosis. 

The Triangle Aphasia Project, Unlimited is a nonprofit organization that provides programming to individuals with aphasia, their families, and the community.  With a Life Participation approach, we strive to reduce communication barriers and improve social engagement and speech/language potential.  TAP provides group programs, trainings, education and opportunities throughout the Triangle and beyond.

TAP's goal for Strides for Speech is not just to help support its community programming but also provide a fun, safe activity for those with aphasia and their families. Whether you walk, run, stroll, or roll this 5K and ½ mile is a perfect opportunities for everyone to come together to support TAP and learn more about how they can help those we serve.

Friday October 13th

Saturday October 14th

• 7:00 AM - 8:15 PM - Packet Pick-up & Check In
• 8:00 AM - Half Mile Start
• 8:30 AM - 5K Start
• 9:30 AM - Awards Ceremony
• *Start times subject to change due to weather or safety

Information

Race Location: Edge Soccer Programs, 201 Kitty Hawk Drive #107, Morrisville, NC 27560.

Course Information: The course is on the paved roads in the business park around Edge Soccer. Course conditions depend on the weather prior to the event. Course Maps Coming Soon!

Events: Everyone is welcome to participate!  All participants (except kids in strollers) will have chip-timed results that will be posted online.  All Fit & Able Productions, Inc. events are inclusion events: anyone of any age, skill-level, or ability can participate in any race! Kids 2 & under may be pushed in a stroller by the parents but must be registered and numbered.

Athletic Trainer: An athletic trainer will be available at a medical tent located near the finish line.

Water Stations: There will be a water station on the course and near the finish line.  Water is also available at the registration and refreshment area.  Additional water stations are marked on the maps (see above).

Packet Pick-up: All participants must show a photo ID or be with a guardian with a photo ID in order to sign the USATF waiver and pick up their bib number and timing chip and may only pick up their own race packet.

Volunteers: We need your help! If you're available please sign up to volunteer between 7:00 -10:00 AM.

Awards: Awards are provided by Omega Sports - Crossroads Plaza.

Registration

Online registration closes on October 13th at 9 PM.  Cash and checks are accepted at packet pick-up and race day.

5K:

• Until October 13th: $30
• At Packet Pickup October 13th & on Race Day October 14th: $35

Half Mile:

• Until October 13th: $10
• At Packet Pickup October 13th & on Race Day October 14th: $15

Kids in Stroller (2 & Under): $5

NOTE: NO REFUNDS, TRANSFERS, or EXCHANGES.

The Strides for Speech and all its participants are subject to these event policies. 

Fit & Able Productions is a nonprofit organization that has been supporting community and family fitness in Cary since 1997 through organizing creative events and training programs.  We also support many programs, such as swim safety lessons for at-risk children and adults, youth fitness programs, and health education run by our community partners including the Cary Family YMCA, Triangle Aquatic Center, and Town of Cary.  Proceeds from our events that aren't designated to support other organizations go to support the event and other Fit & Able nonprofit activities.
