Cahokia Mounds preserves the remains of this Mississippian culture center, which was a prehistoric city with a population of about 10,000 at about AD 1050. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and US National Historic Landmark. Cahokia Mounds is an Archaeological site that preserves about 70 of the origional 120 mounds from about AD 1050. It is the largest archaeological site north of Mexico and Monks Mound is the largest prehistoric earthen construction in the Americas. This trail run course traverses cultural/natural features of this prehistoric archaeological site. You will run through wooded, grassy, and paved trails. Your registration fees support the Cahokia Mounds Museum Society, which is the Non-profit support group that raises funds for programs, events, preservation efforts, and research at the site.
Event details and schedule
Packet Pick-up will be on Friday, Nov. 3, at the Interpretive Center Auditorium between 9 am and 4 pm. or beginning at 8 am on the morning of the race.
The race will begin at 9 am in front of the Interpretive Center near the flags. As you follow the course, keep all markings to your right. The course will be marked with orange flags, cones, and paint.
Each registrant will receive a commemorative City of the Sun Logo T-Shirt.
