Description

Come out for a good cause on November 11th and make your mark in the quest to build awareness of what UNICEF calls “one of the most pervasive human rights challenges of our time” – CHILDHOOD DOMESTIC VIOLENCE (CDV).CHILDHOOD DOMESTIC VIOLENCE (CDV) is when you grow up living in a home with violence between your parents or violence towards a parent, from a stepparent or significant other. CDV impacts 1 in 7 people in the Atlanta Metro (557,337 people) and 278,702 children are experiencing it right now! An estimated 55 million Americans are impacted nationwide – more than 15 million children today and nearly 45 million adults who were these children growing up.

CDV has a “profound and lasting impact on a life.” Most end up struggling in some or all key areas of their life – their physical health, mental wellbeing, behaviors, or relationships – and it significantly increases their likelihood of suicide, addiction, and violence, which often gets passed onto the next generation. CDV is the SINGLE BEST PREDICTOR of becoming a victim or perpetrator of domestic violence in adulthood. BUT…no one knows about it! CDV has <15% public awareness...compared to other major childhood adversities, such as child abuse, which have >95 % awareness. And no widely practiced solutions exist to curb it.

YOU CAN HELP CHANGE THAT on November 11th at the first ever regional CDV awareness 5K in Roswell, GA, hosted by the Childhood Domestic Violence Association in partnership with the School Social Workers Association of Georgia. Join hundreds locally in raising awareness and money to make a difference for the estimated 278,702children impacted by CDV in Metro Atlanta and the adults they will become, while enjoying a vigorous run/walk amidst the scenic Riverside Park in Roswell.

The Georgia Chapter is the first formal regional satellite of the Association, located in Atlanta, GA. The Chapter was founded in 2016 to serve the needs of anyone in Georgia who grows up living with domestic violence or anyone who cares about or works with someone who did.

The School Social Workers Association of Georgia aims to enchance the quality of learning and student achievement.  It works to improve the quality of services to students so as to enchance their individual and educational potential.  School Social Workers (SSWs) are a vital part of the educational team and work to support the student, school staff and family by serving as a link among the school, home, and community.  Their primary goal is to elminate barriers to student success and provide them with the tools and support they need to be in school everyday and learn.  School Social Workersare trained mental health professionals with a minimum requirement of a Master's degree in the field.  They provide a continuum of direct and indirect services and resources to support students, families and communities.
