The Rutherford PBA Halloween Foot Pursuit was created by Rutherford PBA Members Scott Ahearn and Craig Capoano to raise funds for both the Rutherford PBA Local #300, as well as a local charity. Each year the PBA selects a different charity to benefit from the proceeds of the race. This year the race will benefit the Ersalesi Scholarship Fund. The Rutherford PBA Halloween Foot Pursuit is a 5k run/1m walk throughout scenic Rutherford. 

Rutherford PBA Local #300 is a very proud and unified organization, which was established to create a strong and healthy work environment for current and future police officers of Rutherford. PBA Local # 300 is a non-profit organization and must depend on the citizens of Rutherford for support. The PBA local #300 relies on the neighborhood’s generosity to fund community activities. Some past activities PBA local #300 has sponsored are: Little League baseball teams, Babe-Ruth teams, Safe-Night Out, Jr. Police Academy, Annual High School Senior Scholarship, bicycle awareness for children, donations to the NJ Special Olympics Torch Run/Polar Bear Plunge, and many other charitable organizations.

The Ersalesi Scholarship Fund was started in memory of Elizabeth "Betty" Ersalesi, and her husband, Henry.  Mrs. E, as she was affectionately known, was a lifelong resident of Rutherford and a teacher within the Rutherford School System for 36 years. Mrs. E believed in "teaching kids", not "teaching a curriculum". She celebrated daily holidays, and was known for her love of Disney. Mr. Henry "Buddy" Ersalesi was a Rutherford resident for 42 years. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, a mechanic, and a businessman. Both Mr. & Mrs. Ersalesi believed that a passion for hard work and a desire to grow (both academically and vocationally) were necessary to succeed. The Ersalesi Family wishes to honor their memory by offering a scholarship to a student that best represents the qualities that they are remembered for.
