The 38th Annual Chickamauga Battlefield Marathon is run through the nation's oldest military park. Described as one of the most important battles of the Civil War, the Chickamauga Battlefield landscape is lined with monuments and markers honoring those who fought one of the bloodiest battles over 150 years ago.
The mostly paved course is challenging but not extraordinarily difficult. The Start and Finish take place at the original parade ground and polo field of the "Fighting Sixth"Cavalry, Approximately 23 miles of the double loop portion of the course winds through this scenic historic military memorial. Over 250 volunteers support every stage of the course from sentries to aid stations to a bike patrol. You might even see a reenactor or two.
The marathon is a Boston Qualifier.
