Description

The 20th Annual Bradenton Runners Club De Soto National Monument 5 Mile Turkey Trot will be held in Bradenton again this year on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, November 23th.  A unique and widely attended family-oriented community event, this race has never charged a registration fee, instead we ask all participants to recognize the efforts of selected local charities and help offset event costs through making donations via our registration page or race day (cash or canned goods).

As we did last year, we are offering the option to purchase a special edition Turkey Trot race shirt, including our turkeys amid runners logo.  Please note that the shirts are an additional charge (shirts not picked up race day will be resold after the race and will not be shipped).

All donors will receive a commemorative wrist band on the morning of the race.  In addition, individual, corporate, and team sponsors contributing over $250 will be recognized in a half page color ad in the Herald Tribune on the day after Thanksgiving.  Sponsorship levels are $1,000+ for gold, $500+ for silver, and $250+ for bronze.  Please contact Keith Monahan at (941) 400-3383 for more information regarding sponsorship opportunities.

The race will use the same route as last year, with the start and finish at the end of 75th Street at the gate to the De Soto National Memorial (http://www.nps.gov/deso/index.htm).  This 5 mile event is on rural roads near the Monument and both runners and walkers are welcome.  Participants will proceed through a quiet residential area, followed by a section through some natural Florida land and a small farm.  There are two water stops available.

Race number pickup at pre registration tables starting at 6:45am on race day.  Race Day Registration closes 7:45am.  Starting Gun 8:00am.  The overall Top Five Male and Female runners will receive a delicious pie for their Thanksgiving celebration.  There are no age group awards.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, in addition to our recognition of charities supporting those in need, participants are asked to bring something to share with the other participants.  Running favorites like bagels, bananas, oranges, energy bars, sport drinks or water are always welcome and make for a great post race gathering.  It is a great way to start the holiday.

Limited race day registration will also be available if space is available.  Parking is limited in the area near the start, so please allow extra time as the later you arrive, the further away from the start/finish you will have to park.
