• BUCM Reindeer Fun Run:- Run 1 Mile

Burke United Christian Ministries is pleased to announce the inaugural BUCM Rivalry Run to Fight Hunger, a 5K Run/Walk on the Freedom High School cross-country course, and the Reindeer Fun Run, a one-mile non-competitive event. Both races start at Freedom Park on Saturday, December 9, 2017, at 9:00am.

Everyone is invited! All proceeds from this event benefit Burke United Christian Ministries.

The BUCM Rivalry Run 5K is a good-spirited competition among Burke County's four high schools: Jimmy C. Draughn, East Burke, Freedom, and Robert L. Patton. Current students, staff, alumni, parents, and all supporters of each high school are encouraged to participate. If you are not affiliated with one of the four high schools, you are still invited to come out and crash the party!

The 5K will take place on the Freedom High School cross country course this year and will rotate to the other high schools each year thereafter. The 5K run/walk is a chip-timed event with awards for overall- and age grouped award winners. Your entry fee includes your timing chip, commemorative tee shirt, and post-race snacks and beverages.

The Reindeer Fun Run is for ages 14 and under. Each participant will receive a finisher's medal in this untimed, non-competitive event.

All participants and spectators are urged to bring donations of canned food items and clothing to help support our neighbors in their time of need. With your help, BUCM serves Burke County through offering people nutritious meals at its Soup Kitchen, counseling neighbors in times of crisis, and providing families with food, clothing and financial assistance.

Points will be awarded to each High School based on the number of participants, dollars donated, items of food and clothing donated, and other criteria. The coveted Traveling Trophy will be awarded to the high school with the most points!

Entry Fees, Dates and Times:

BUCM Rivalry Run 5K Run/Walk and Reindeer Fun Run -- both events will take place at 9:00am on Saturday, December 9, 2017.

BUCM Rivalry Run 5K Run/Walk -- $20 through November 17, 2017. $25 afterwards through race day.

Reindeer Fun Run -- $10 through November 17, 2017. $15 afterwards through race day.

Race Day packet pickup and on-site registration will be available starting at 7:00am. Race day registration will close at 8:45am so please plan to arrive in plenty of time to register and get ready to run!
