Tour Summary:

Back in the 19th century, Manhattan’s western shoreline was congested with endless rows of piers for cargo ships, passenger ships, ferries and many other vessels crucial to trade and the economy. You could barely see the river and there was very little open space. As time went on other forms of transportation were favored which led to closure of the piers. Many were left abandon and in disrepair. Then in 1998 NYC approved ground breaking for a park. Most of the old piers were removed and replaced with new, landscaped piers which changed the shoreline into an oasis for a still very hectic city. In 2003 the first section of Hudson River Park was opened and now it stretches for 4.5 miles from Battery Park up to 59th Street. With a total of 550 acres, it is the second biggest park in Manhattan.

The Hudson River is one of New York’s favorite places to enjoy many outdoor activities such as running, biking, kayaking, along with sunbathing, picnicking, even enjoying a nice glass of wine while watching the sunset. In this run tour you will see expansive views of the Hudson River and the New York City skyline. Winding treelined paths will take you past several newly constructed piers along side remains of the original wooden piers and even railway gantries that were used for transferring railcars from cargo ferries. This tour will allow for a quality workout combined with a view of the city that visitors rarely see.

What to expect

This is a group running tour that will be led by a licensed NYC sightseeing guide who is also a certified running coach. To insure no one is left behind and that all can hear the guide we will run at an easy, conversation pace. We will make periodically stops to view and discuss notable points of interest throughout the tour. You should be able to comfortably run 5 miles for this tour. The duration of the tour is approximately 1 1/2 hours. Although your guide will run with a backpack and can store small items for you such as phones or keys, we recommend bringing very little on the tour. As always, it's important to stay hydrated during a run, so please bring a small bottle of water. We will begin our tour right at the scheduled start time, however if you are running late please be sure to email or phone us no later than 15 minutes prior to the start. Travel to and from our tours is usually fastest via subway, so please bring a MetroCard. Please email us for more details at [email protected].
