_ The 2018 Petrified Forest Marathon & Half-Marathon:

A scenic marathon/half marathon through the beautiful Petrified Forest National Park. Through an exclusive partnership between the City of Holbrook and the National Park Service we are able to provide runners with this opportunity. Spots are extremely limited, register as soon as you can!

The course has lots of small hills and has a net altitude loss of about 400 Feet from the start to the finish. There will be 15 aid stations along the route. (See Map http://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/461913732)

Saturday, October 20th Schedule:

5:45am  - 6:00am

A Holbrook School District bus will be located right off of Highway 180, turn-off to the Petrified Forest in the Petrified Forest Gift Shop parking lot to pick up participants that would like to park at the finish line and be shuttled to the starting line on the north side of the Park. Runners can be dropped off at the start line but the driver will need to park at the north side visitor center parking lot.

6:30 am – 7:00 am

Volunteers conduct late registration/check-in at the overflow parking lot outside the park’s north entrance.  (WAIVER REQUIRED) Waivers will be available at the registration table.

7:00 am – 7:10 am

Runners receive welcome and safety instructions from marathon staff and PEFO Ranger

7:15 am

Marathon and Half-Marathon courses

Important Note: road traffic will be held for the start of each race. Parking will be located at the south entrance of the park.

Start Line:

The Start Line for each race (Marathon, Half Marathon) will be unique.  The finish line for each race will be shared.  A staging area will be established adjacent to the Start Line of each race.  Runners will be called to the staging area 15 minutes prior to the start of their race.

Runners will be called to the start line 5 minutes prior to the start of their race and vehicle traffic will be held for the Start.

On Course Support:

There are 14 Staffed support stations that will consist of water.  Half of these stations will have sports drinks available as well.  One week prior to race day, you will receive notification of the mile marker locations for each of these stations.

Distance Markers may be signed every mile.

The course will follow the park road which is lightly traveled and will remain open to normal traffic.

There are restroom facilities at the PEFO Visitor Center, Kachina Point, Puerco Pueblo and Rainbow Forest. Portable toilets will be brought to the north side/starting line on a trailer for marathon start, then transported to the turnoff at Blue Mesa.

Our volunteers along the course are amazing!  When you see them, feel free to give them a shout-out or a high five!

Finish Line Photography:

Race photography will be provided free of charge to all runners.

Photos will be taken at the start, on the course, at the finish line, and post finish line for all races.

For the best photo and to keep your number visible to the finish line photographer.  There will be a staging area near the finish line for individual and group photos.  Please allow several days for all photos to be uploaded.

Finish Line:

All finishers in the marathon and half-marathon will receive a finisher’s medal.

Runners will be refreshed at the finish line with various food options along with water at all stations and gatorade at half the stations. There will be seating available to rest after the race.

Post-race festivities will take place around the finish line, which will include cultural dancers.
