We are pleased to invite you, your family, friends and co-workers to join us for the 2011 Sickle Cell Disease Association of Broward County, Inc. Cell-ebration 5K RUN/WALK. We are honored to host an event that brings a disease with far too little awareness to the forefront, while celebrating the relentless effort of those afflicted to live fully functional lives.
Once considered an African American disease, the whole story is that Sickle Cell Disease is a color-less, race-less, nationality-less, disease. This blood disease strikes Hispanics, South and Central Americans, those from the Caribbean, and racial groups of European and Asian descents as well. Sickle Cell Disease is a hereditary disease of the red blood cells, which affects the oxygen carrying process of the hemoglobin. The pain associated with the disease, along with co-occurring diseases and conditions causes frequent medical crises for men, women, and children.
The Cell-ebration 5K RUN/WALK will take place on September 17, 2011 at Central Broward Regional Park in Sunrise, FL. All proceeds will help ensure support services for individuals and families living with Sickle Cell Disease, Sickle Cell Trait and help advance community awareness programs. See you there and thank you in advance for your generous support.
Regards
Karen Smalls, President
