On Saturday, June 11th, 2011, the third annual "Jace Race" will take place in conjunction with New Sharon's annual Spring Festival.
The race is in memory of Jace Carrico, a nine-year old boy from New Sharon who fought a brain tumor for five years with strength and perseverance.
Jace passed away on August 19th, 2008. His parents have established a non-profit organization, The Jace Foundation, which will be used to help the children of the New Sharon community in numerous ways, such as individual needs in the school and classroom settings, and an annual fine arts-based assembly.
Jace had a special place in his heart for this community and for the people who poured out their love and support to him and his family.
The Carricos have handed responsibility of the race to the North Mahaska Education Foundation, which will continue to support the school in the same ways as the Jace Foundation.
