Description

Whether it’s running or walking that you love, we hope you will join us for our fourth annual Chimpathon and spot Doc running on his island home!

This unique course takes you through Save the Chimps – the world’s largest chimpanzee sanctuary, located in Fort Pierce, Florida. Enjoy hearing the wonderful sounds of pant hoots and watching the chimpanzees roam as you run beside their island homes.

You don’t want to miss this amazing opportunity to visit the Sanctuary, which is not open to the public. Registration is limited to 700 participants, out of consideration for our Sanctuary residents.

Over 1,000 participants joined us over the last two years, raising nearly $90,000 to benefit the nearly 250 rescued chimpanzees residing at Save the Chimps. Let’s make this year even better!

Course Info

There is no other race like it in the world!

At 7:30 am on April 15, 2018, hundreds of racers will head north through the front gate of St. Lucie County Fairgrounds, run or walk three stories up a wide circular pedestrian ramp, enjoying panoramic views of Florida’s citrus fields as they cross an aerial sidewalk (called “the bridge to nowhere” by locals), and circle back down a ramp to the Okeechobee Bike Path on the other side.

The course turns north again along South Header Canal Road before it turns east in to Save the Chimps – the world’s largest sanctuary for rescued chimpanzees – at mile 4.

After a completing a 1-1/2 mile lap around the Sanctuary, racers return to St. Lucie County Fairgrounds and cross the finish to the cheers of supporters.
