2018 Take a Stand Against DV 5K

_ The 2018 Take a Stand Against Domestic Violence 5K:

The Take a Stand Against Domestic Violence 5K is a scenic run through palm tree lined residences in beautiful Marco Island, Florida – an iconic community located in the largest of Florida’s “10,000 Islands” located along the Gulf of Mexico in Southwest Florida. The area features abundant wildlife, and hills created over hundreds of years in the distant past by Calusa Indians piling shells harvested around the island.

This special 5K is a chip timed race which is being timed by Integrity Racing. It is an ‘out and back race’ which will be open to all who want to participate, from experienced, competitive runners to those who simply wish to walk. All race entrants will receive a T-shirt, a special gift for participating, and awards will be given for the top three runners in each age group.

The race will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2018 starting at 8:00 a.m. Event volunteers will be handing out T-shirts and numbers with chipped devices beginning at 7:00 a.m.

The 5K will begin at the Wesley United Methodist Church, located at 350 S. Barfield Avenue, Marco Island, FL 34145. There is plenty of parking onsite, as well as beautiful views of the inlet.

This 5K race is in support of a very worthy cause – victims of domestic violence who receive vital and potentially life-saving free legal assistance through Legal Aid Service of Collier County. All proceeds from the 5K will benefit Legal Aid and the projects it operates to protect and support domestic violence survivors and their children. The founder of the 5K, Tina Nash, is a domestic violence survivor and a current Legal Aid Advisory Board Member, who designed the race to raise awareness about domestic violence and to advise those at risk where to turn for help.

A family friendly event, the 5K will include music, face painting, balloons, refreshments and more. Legal Aid extends a special thanks to the Title Sponsor of the 5K, the JW Marriott Marco Island Beach Resort, for being a caring community partner and supporting victims during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
