Description

_ The 12th Annual Kokopelli Classic & Mary's Loop Trail Run:

Glorious views will be your domain as you run your way around the infamous Mary’s Loop bike trail in western Colorado’s red rocks country.  The trail starts with some road and then transitions to sweet single track for the bulk of the race with commanding views of the desert and Colorado River.

For the extra hardy, the Kokopelli Classic picks up where Mary’s Loop leaves off and packs on another 8 miles of trail running beyond Mary’s Loop.  This stunning course includes some lung searing climbs and features  Steve’s Loop, Lion’s Loop and Mack Ridge in addition to Mary’s Loop.  This is where the scenery is only rivaled by your tenacity and where the ravens will be your only companions.

Both races start with about ½ mile of gravel road to thin out the pack and wrap up with 2.5 miles of gravel road to make for a blisteringly fast finish.  Both courses are fully supported with amply stocked aid stations, sag patrol and staffed by experienced search and rescue personnel.

Come run with the high desert wind and let our scenery take your breath away

Event details and schedule

Start time for the 16 mile Kokopelli Classic will be 7:00 AM.  Start time for the 8 mile Mary's Loop Run will be 7:30 AM.  Staff will be on hand for check in and day of registration starting at 6:00.  Registration and start/finish are located at the Main trailhead where there is ample parking.  Please carpool if possible (to save room for the mountain bikers) and look for a parking attendant when you arrive.  Bring and wear trail running gear for the conditions at hand, usually cool at start time and hot at the finish.  Please no dogs on the course and do not leave pets unattended in or around your vehicle.  No hiking poles/walking staffs etc. on course.  Water is limited in the area (no hydrants) so please take all you need but to try to avoid waste.  There will be an awards ceremony/recovery and feeding station at the finish line area with assorted goodies.  Awards will follow after the races.

Mary’s Loop course:  The first ½ mile is on gravel road and then turns onto Mary’s loop with a long climb on an old 4 wheel drive road followed by some twisting single track along the rim before heading over a low pass back to the gravel frontage road and heading back to the start/finish.

Kokopelli Classic course:  Runs with Mary’s loop course up to Steve’s Loop where the 16 mile Kokopelli Classic splits off for a lap around Steve’s Loop where the scenery is so good, you’ll forget that you’re racing.  After returning from Steve’s Loop the classic heads back out to the west on Lions Loop and gets into some bigger country followed by a monster climb up Mack ridge to the high point aid station and a fast but technical descent down Mack Ridge to the last aid station before hitting the gravel frontage road for the last 2.5 miles

Pre-registration package pickup is to be determined.
