to race start6From I-25, take the Cimmaron exit (Exit 141). Head west
on Cimmaron (towards the mountains). Cimmaron is also known as Hwy-24.
Proceed about 6 miles to the Manitou Ave exit. Turn right at the end of
the exit ramp and proceed west on Manitou Ave. After about 3/4 mile,
Memorial Park will be on your right. On race morning, parking is a
problem. Arrive early and/or carpool. You may end up parking 1/4 to
1/2 mile from the actual start area so allow plenty of time.Weather On
Pikes Peak7The weather on Pikes Peak can be very dangerous. Hail and
lightening storms can develop very fast and put runners and volunteers
in life-threatening danger. In the event of severe weather, cut-off
times will be moved up for the safety of all involved. Cut-off times
were moved up in 2004, 2005 and 2008.Triple Crown Series8The Pikes Peak
Ascent is the 3rd leg of the Triple Crown of Running Series. The 1st
leg is the Garden of the Gods 10 Mile Run in June. The 2nd leg is the
Summer Roundup Trail Run in July. The ascent portion of the Pikes Peak
Marathon can also serve as the 3rd leg of the series. If a runner
finishes both the Pikes Peak Ascent and the Pikes Peak Marathon, the 3rd
leg of the series is the faster of the two ascent portions of those
races.Volunteer9Can't run in the event and you still want to be a part
of the action? Then get out there and volunteer and cheer on the
runners. Dedicated volunteers are always needed. Check out the web

off the mountain13After you finish the race, a combination of vans and
busses will take you back down to Memorial Park in Manitou Springs.
Traffic on the Pikes Peak Highway is very heavy and slow on race day, so
it will take a couple of hours to get you back down to Manitou
Springs.Sweat Check14You are highly encouraged to check in some warm and
dry clothing at the start area. These will be transported to the
summit where you can retrieve them. If the weather at the summit is
cold, you will be glad to have the extra clothing.More Weather15Expect
anything. It is typically warm and dry in Manitou Springs. The higher
you get, the more of a factor the weather can become. Thunderstorms are
common during the summer in Colorado. You may experience those. If
it's a cool summer day in Manitou Springs, expect it to be downright
chilly above tree line (i.e., temps in the 30s).
