2020 Steamtown Marathon

_ The 2020 Steamtown Marathon:

Thank you for considering entering The Steamtown Marathon, one of only a small handful of U.S. Marathons to receive a rating of 14.5 out of 15 stars on marathonguide.com.

We offer a USATF-certified course, which you can use to qualify for the Boston Marathon. The Steamtown Marathon features a net elevation drop of more than 900 feet.  Founded in 1996, the Marathon has been rated as having one of the nation’s fastest marathon courses and has been listed as having a top 10 course for first-time marathoners.

You will run through 14 local communities during the peak of fall foliage and will be cared for by more than 2,000 volunteers. There will be 14 aid stations with Gatorade and water, port-a-lavs along the course, and several teams of bicyclists patrolling the course to make sure all are doing okay.  The course includes several scenic miles of Rails to Trails along the Lackawanna River.  All finishers will receive a large medal and will have access to a free food tent. All entrants receive a commemorative shirt.

Registration will close when we receive our 3,000th entry or on October 8, whichever occurs first.

Additional Information & Event Schedule:

Race begins at Forest City High School on Sunday, October 11, 2020 @ 8:00am EST (SHARP!). The race respectfully requests that you enter only if you are confident that you can finish within 6 hours.  Runners who finish after seven hours will not receive a medal or be listed in the official results. 

A race expo will be held the day before the race at Scranton High School from 11:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.  Runners are encouraged to pick up their packets at the expo.  Packet pick up will also be available at the start inside Forest City High School on race morning from 6:15 a.m. until 7:45 a.m.

POINT TO POINT RACE:

The Steamtown Marathon is a USATF-certified event and is an official Boston Marathon qualifier.  The course features a net elevation drop of 955′.  The point-to-point course runs through 14 communities and includes approximately 4.2 miles of paved rails-to-trails along the Lackawanna River.  There are 14 official stations and several port-a-lav stations on the course.

• This course is ranked as one of the fastest qualifying courses for the Boston Marathon.
• On average, between 22% and 25% of all Steamtown finishers qualify for the Boston Marathon.
