Description

_ The 2020 Grayton Beach Kous Kouri 8 & 4-Miler:

Greetings runners!  I’m pleased to announce that registration for the 4th Annual Grayton Beach Kous Kouri 8 & 4-miler, presented by Beau Interiors, is NOW OPEN!  The race will be taking place on Saturday, November 28th at 8:00a.  The race starts on world-famous County Road 30A mere steps from Uptown Grayton.  After a short trek along 30A, runners will proceed onto the trails within Grayton Beach State Park.  After completing a loop course within the trail system (both courses), runners eventually make their way back to the 30A and ultimately finish literally at the front door of Grayton Beer Brewpub.  Trail runs are a rarity in our area; needless to say, courses this beautiful are a rarity ANYWHERE!  Beautiful trail runs that finish at a brewpub?  It doesn't get much better!!!

We’re also excited to announce that 100% of the race proceeds will once again benefit an organization called Streethearts, a rescue program for children living on the street in Cap-Haitian, Haiti.  Streethearts is dedicated to ending the population of homeless children in Haiti.  To learn more, please visit www.streetheartshaiti.org.  Considering Streethearts started as a running club I'd say it's only fitting that we're running to support them!  And just FYI: "Kous Kouri," the name of the race, loosely translates to "trail running" in Haitian Creole.

Upon conclusion of the race we'll proceed to Grayton Beer Brewpub (1/4 mile west of the park entrance on CR-30A).  The awards ceremony will kick off at 10:00a with the post-race social to immediately follow.  The overall male and female winner for the 8-miler will each receive a $100 gift card GRAND PRIZE; the overall male and female winner for the 4-miler will each receive a $50 gift card.  Age-group awards for both males and females will also be given.

I should take this opportunity real quick to discuss the terrain just so there are no surprises.  Once the race crosses CR-30A and onto the trails, the terrain will obviously get a little more hazardous: tree roots, rocks, sand, fallen over trees, and potentially, if there's rain, standing water and mud.  In other words, pure awesomeness!!!  Again, I just wanted to discuss the terrain so no one shows up on race day expecting a groomed running path with no trip hazards and with aspirations of going home with clean shoes.  Simply put, not gonna happen!  It's one mile in distance from the pavilion to the trailhead, so only half of the 4 mile course is on the trails...for better or for worse, depending on your perspective :).  That said, and illustrating my unparalleled public math prowess here, 6 miles of the 8 mile course are on the trails, which also includes a beautiful lakeside section which basically serves as the turnaround.

Packet Pick-up: packet pick-up will be at Grayton Beer Brewpub on Friday, November 27th from noon until 6:00p. If you can't make it on Friday, there will also be race day packet pick-up also at Grayton Beer Brewpub from 6:30-7:45a. HOWEVER, I've been told that there will be several specials at the brewpub on Friday; so after your Black Friday shopping, you should come get your packet and take advantage!

Post-Race Social: The fine folks at Grayton Beer have agreed to provide chicken gumbo AND any two of their beers (Grayton Pale Ale, Fish Whistle IPA, 1890 Founder's Ale, or 30A Beach Blonde Ale) to ALL REGISTERED RUNNERS, complimentary. Your bib will have three tabs across the bottom: these tabs are what will get you the gumbo and beer(s)...so be sure to bring your bib!!! NOTE: you must have a valid ID on you to get served! If beer is not your thing, they will also have a full selection of non-alcoholic beverages, i.e. soft drinks, tea, coffee, etc. They will also have their full menu available for your friends and family who didn't run.

From start to finish this should be a great event in support of an OUTSTANDING cause.  We certainly hope you can make it out!
